NYC Scene
Please note as we are discontinuing The Subway Soul Club for the forseeable future I will no longer be maintaining this listings page.
I've decided to leave it up for now as many things are still relevant but you will need to double check as it will be come increasingly out of date.
Any more 60's nights going on in NYC?
If you're into 60's music here is my list of other nights you may find of interest in NYC. It includes on-going DJ nights ( a bar with a live DJ spinning 45s ) and dance parties (clubs). I can only list regular, reoccurring events. I highly recommend signing up to Perry Lane's New York Mod Squad group on Facebook for up to the minute happenings including bands, one off parties and random, mod things I haven't heard about. ( He's very good you know!)
I DO NOT and CANNOT answer individually the volume of enquiries I receive asking for recommendations for places to go in NYC or I would have to chuck in my job and become a full-time, mod travel agent ( hence the creation of this list ) and I appologise that I can't provide anyone with a record shopping guide . Quite frankly, I tried to put one together once and none of our vinyl, collector DJs would reveal their sources! They are just as keen to knab that rare, floor filler as you are!
But I really want you to have a great time in NYC so here are a couple of nightlife tips;
Proper dance floors and therefore dancing is rare in NYC due to some antiquated licensing laws and is only available where mentioned though, as most venues are just bars, not nightclubs, this can often consist of a space between the bar and the table! ( Subway Soul does have a dancefloor!)
Expect to go to Brooklyn!
Seriously, pretty much all the cool stuff happens in Brooklyn these days. But don't worry, its safe and just a skip away. Subway Soul is only one stop on the L subway from downtown Manhattan.
For those that are unfamiliar with NYC, be warned, things tend to start LATE so don't expect anything to really warm up or even start much before 10pm, even midweek. Stick around if a club seems quiet at 11pm. It's sure to get busier. But don't let that deter you from getting down early. You may find some space to dance or that precious spare seat !
Also remember that all bars in NYC require you to show ID to prove you are over 21 years old. This is not our call. Venues are required to enforce this law. Bummer eh? How are your forgery skills?
